Nishantha Warnakulasuriya is a Music Director, Choral Director, Singer, Violinist, Pianist and a performing member of The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL). He teaches violin at Soul Sounds Academy and has been teaching at the academy for over 10 years.
Nishantha studied violin and piano under the guidance of Mrs. Louisa David from a young age. He holds an ATCL in vocal classical examinations while furthering his vocal training under the direction and guidance of Mrs. Menaka de Fonseka Sahabandu. He has performed as a soloist at Mozart’s Coronation Mass at St. Lucia’s Cathedral (Kotahena), and Franz Schubert’s Mass in G, in February 2017 and 2018 respectively, conducted by Gregory Rose. He performed with the South Asian Symphony Orchestra (SASO), for a concert held in Chennai in July 2022.
His musical experience predominantly revolves around choral music, which dates back to his school days at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, where he was trained by Mr. Francis De Almeida. He is a choral director of The Old Joes’ Choir, a well renowned choral group that performs locally and has won several awards internationally.
Having been inspired and having obtained invaluable advice from many educators throughout his musical career, Nishantha wishes to extend his heartfelt gratitude to a few acclaimed conductors and educators, Dushyanthi Perera, Eshantha J. Peiris, Peter Crockford, Jay Dougherty, Soundarie David Rodrigo, Sharmini Patrick and Kavan Rambukwelle, for inspiring and encouraging him over the years.
